Suburbs of Las Vegas
They don't call them suburbs here, but being from the east, I can't think of another term. Mostly, they are just outlying parts of the Las Vegas area. A few exceptions are..
Henderson to the south and east. A separate city. Boulder City, another city, east of Henderson, and the only place in Clark County where gambling is not legal. Originally built as a place to house the workers for Hoover Dam. Lake Las Vegas: A fancy new area located to the southeast of Las Vegas, it has several communities built around a man-made lake. I don't know much about it, except at least one Strip entertainer lived there, and commuted by helicopter every day. North Las Vegas sprawls north and east of Las Vegas. Although a it's own city, the lines can be blurred. As an example, there are two good sized casinos (Fiesta Rancho and Texas Station) here. Hard to tell you left Las Vegas. Summerlin: Not a separate city, but parts of it might as well be. The oldest, and probably largest planned community. It is huge, encompassing vast tracts of land on the west side of Las Vegas. It contains more than 20 villages, and is still growing. A commute from here is similar to a commute from any other bedroom community to any other city. Those are the biggies. If you know the names, and the approximate locations, you know enough to start. There are many other areas with their own local name, but those you will learn about as you need to. After four years here, I probably couldn't name a quarter of them.
