Rancho Drive and Boulder Highway

If you look at a Map of Las Vegas, you'll see two streets that defy the normal grid pattern and run at an angle from southeast to northwest.

Rancho Drive, is the one in the Northwest. This actually starts at Desert Inn and follows the Highway (I-15) up to Sahara. From there it runs due north for a couple of miles, then turns northwest. It continues out into suburbia, past North Las Vegas Airport, and eventually joins Highway 95 just north of Ann Road.

This street can be a good way to get someplace without going up, then over, but it does have drawbacks. Running at an angles it does, means it cross all the east-west streets, and all the north-south streets.

There is a traffic light at almost every one.

The angled street in the Southeast is Boulder Highway, which is actually an extension of Freemont Street, downtown. Boulder Highway goes out of Las Vegas, straight through Henderson and continues, logically enough, to Boulder City.

After that, it is plain old Route 93 and it will take you across Hoover Dam and into Arizona.

For some reason, the traffic light problem doesn't seem to be as extreme here.

A bit of totally useless trivia: Each of the streets is home to a Fiesta Hotel and Casino.
