Pets in Las Vegas
The City of Las Vegas and Clark County each have different rules regarding pets. According to the best information I could find, you are permitted, in either location, to have up to three dogs and up to three cats. You may not, however, have four of one and two of the other, or five of one, and one of the other.
One would think that one, 140 pound dog would count for fourteen 10 pound cats. I do know of situations where that regulation has not been followed, and no ill has come of it. Just make sure your neighbors don't complain. Animal Control seems to arrive promptly in the Las Vegas area. I believe the laws regarding animals were recently changed to require that you spay or neuter your dogs and cats (unless you are a breeder). Paperwork for your dog, cat or ferret
Clark County does not require registration of dogs or cats, but does require that they have a "Microchip Device, Current Owner Identification Tag, or Rabies Tag" for identification purposes. They also require that all dogs, cats and ferrets be vaccinated against rabies. The City of Las Vegas requires that dogs and cats be licensed (no mention of ferrets). Since we live in an unincorporated area (the County, rather than the City), I can't say how strictly that is enforced. Las Vegas pet adoption
The Las Vegas area is home to a number of organizatiions that adopt animals. With the huge number of homeless animals, it seems like a good way to acquire a furry friend. We have had several cats over the years, and they have all been rescues of one form or another. The only pet adoption service I'm familiar with here is Heaven Can Wait Sanctuary. They do an excellent job finding good homes for cats. They do require you sign an agreement stating your adopted cat will be an indoor only pet. My 17 year old cat wouldn't like that. Other animals
If you have other animals, you may want to do some research. In our area, we can have keep a horse, if we so choose. In some areas it is one horse per 10,000 square feet of land. Our neighborhood also has at least two peacocks, a somewhat noisy rooster, and racing pigeons. I have been told that the local ordinances forbid chickens running loose in the front yards (seriously). I also knew a family who kept a pot bellied pig, but that was in a fairly rural part of the county. Give my best to Fido.
