Mega Resort: A Las Vegas Fantasy

Having spent time in many of the mega resorts in Las Vegas, I'm fascinated by imaginations of those who plan them. It has to be a designer's dream job.

Here, I present my vision of a planning meeting just prior to the start of construction.

Disclaimer: This is pure fantasy. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Back in Time Bar, aquarium where you can swim with sharks, Fantasy Arcade, or Unicorn Habitat, in Las Vegas.

If anyone does create such attractions, please credit this site and give me a pass for lifetime free admission. Thanks.

There is (or was - I haven't checked recently) an anti-gravity ride, but it involved flying in an airplane. There are, in fact, several art galleries and bowling alleys in Las Vegas. And I'm told some guy named Rembrandt used to be a pretty fair painter.

On with the meeting:

Big Shot: "We need more appeal for the upscale visitors. People who are sophisticated."

Designer 1: "No problem. We got enough space for an art museum over in this corner here, next to the Fantasy Arcade. Drop the kids off as you go in, and collect them on the way out.

"We'll pick up a couple of dozen old masters along with some good contemporary stuff. While we're at it, I think a large Rembrandt would be perfect behind the Back in Time bar."

Big Shot: "Great idea. Should we do more to attract the people with families?"

Designer 2: "How about a 200,000 gallon salt water aquarium with sharks and sting rays. If we move the bowling alley a bit to the left, we can have people walk under the fish and look up at them.

"For an extra fee, we could let people actually swim with the sharks."

Big Shot: "Not Bad. See about moving the bowling alley. Maybe throw in a moray eel or two.

"What about thrill seekers ... Say those from twenty-one to thirty-five?"

Designer 3: "If we shift the Unicorn Habitat from the east side of the lobby to the west, we can install an anti-gravity ride to take people from the lobby to the roof-top lounge in under 4 seconds. Think of it. Only in Las Vegas can you travel up 48 floors at 120 miles per hour in reverse free fall!

"Of course, those who prefer, could still take the elevator..."

Planning a mega resort probably doesn't happen that way in real life, but given some of the amazing things I've seen on The Strip, it could.

Hope you enjoyed my fantasy.
