Things you can do only in Las Vegas
Here, you will find activities that you can do only in Las Vegas. A few things listed here you could probably do anywhere else ... But not 24 hours a day. The others are, as far as I know, unique to this town.
We've done this with the grandkids at the Adventuredome in Circus Circus. Definitely a good time. The roller coaster is good enough that the kids wanted to ride it again. Don't think because it's indoors, it's going to be small, or tame. It's the real deal. When the thermometer is reading 112, you'll see why building the park indoors was actually a pretty good idea.
Ok, I've mentioned this one before, but after riding it a couple of times, it's still fun.
Mandalay Bay's shark reef allows you, through a series of enclosed walk ways to actually walk through the shark reef. If you like aquariums, you'll like this one. I did, and I been to some good ones.
From the top of the 1,149 foot tall Stratosphere Tower, the view is worth the trip. There are actually several things you can do only in Las Vegas while atop the tower. I haven't done them all (they change from time to time), but I have tried the Big Shot. The ride is much more exciting than it looks, and although not very long, starting at 100 stories above the ground certainly adds to the thrill. This one I've done a couple of times, and would do again.
If you're old enough, you may remember that The Playboy Club once had facilities all over the world (I am just old enough to have been to the ones in St. Louis and London). Those days are gone. Today, going to the Playboy Club, located on the 52nd floor of the Palms Fantasy Tower, qualifies as something you can do only in Las Vegas.
Drive through windows are big almost anywhere, but Las Vegas is the only place I know of where you can have a drive through wedding. And it isn't isolated. There are several places offering this service. One, I'm told, even offers ride through service for your wedding on a Harley. Update. Although I couldn't find another drive through wedding offered in the U.S., I did find one in Canada, and one in Australia.
Fiesta Rancho has what I believe is the only drive through sports book in the country. Think of it. You're out with the kids on a Saturday afternoon, you can drive though a fast food place for their dinner, then, while they're muching away, drive through your local sports book to make a bet on Sunday's games ... without leaving the kids unattended! I haven't tried this yet, as I make very few sports bets, but I used to play some poker at the Fiesta before they closed their room (Fiesta Henderson still has poker).
Selecting from that many shows is something you can do only in Las Vegas. It's roughly twice as many shows as there are in Manhattan, and the quality (based on what I've seen - and I grew up in New York), is just as good.
Martinis with the Mayor was offered at the local community college last year, and I'm hoping it will be scheduled again. I've enjoyed an occasional martini, and having seen our mayor in action at several meetings, as well as on television, I suspect he would be an excellent teacher.
Many universities off courses on wine, and UNLV is no different. Tequila ,,, You'll Love It! however, is the first course I've ever seen on the many varieties of wonderful Mexican drink
Go Bowling. Several lanes are opened 24 hours a day. Go to a bar without hearing the dreaded Last Call. Las Vegas bars are open 24 hours a day. Play Bingo. Both Arizona Charlie's locations offer 24 hour a day bingo.
