Things to be in Las Vegas

Things to be in Las Vegas?

If you want to do more than just gawk at the sights, you can partake of what they offer, but to get really involved, become part of the sights.

Train Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins for a day.

You can spend a day as one of the trainers in the Dolphin Habitat in the Secret Gardens of Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage.

According to the Mirage website, "Dolphin Training is an active working environment where you will have the opportunity to play with the dolphins, train them, and feed them."

At $500 a pop, it's not cheap, but maybe the next time I have a good night at poker...

Be in a Las Vegas show without rehearsing

Although it's free to watch the Rio's Masquerade Show In The Sky, for $12.95 you can be in the show. Although I've seen the show a couple of times, I just found out about this, and I plan to give it a try.

Update, March 11, 2008: I have heard a rumor this show will be closing April 8, 2008. I'll keep you posted.

Update March 13, 2008: Evidently the show will only be closed for updating, and will re-open mid April.

Learn to deal

I know Las Vegas isn't the only place to learn to deal, but why would you learn anywhere else? If you were serious about skiing, wouldn't you want to try the Alps? Would seriously consider learning to be a world class chef without spending any time in France?

Of course not.

Besides, there are probably more dealer schools in Las Vegas than in any city on the planet. My daughter went to one a few years ago, knowing nothing about casinos. After just a few years, she is working at the corporate level for one of the better casino companies.

Recently, my wife Susan, who has always enjoyed both people and cards decided to take a class on dealing poker. After a six week course and a couple of weeks of filling out applications, she has a great new career. I think she'd work seven days a week, if they'd let her.

For Women Only

Who says it's a man's world. Some jobs are just better suited to a woman.

Be a Bunny Dealer

In keeping with the Dealer School concept, here's something you can truly only be in Las Vegas. The Playboy Club currently (January 2008) has a notice on their website soliciting applications for Bunny Dealers.

Learn to be a stripper - really

Stripper 101 is offering classes on the Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood. Their website says, "Women 18 to 80 years old, of all shapes and sizes have enjoyed Stripper 101." The classes are taught by real strippers and utilize "boas, chairs and poles."

They claim a workout burns up to 500 calories, and they'll issue you a license as a "genuine Las Vegas stripper."

I don't think I'll tell my Granddaughter.

Become a Belly Dancer

The College of Souther Nevada (formerly the Community College of Souther Nevada) is offering not one, not two, but three courses on Belly Dancing (two introductory, and one intermediate).

They don't say if the classes qualify you to apply for a job, but I do know that there are professional belly dancers working in town We had dinner with some friends at a wonderful Moroccan place a while back - belly dancer included, of course. If I think of the name I'll post it.

If you know of any other things you can be in Las Vegas, send on through the Suggestion Box.

Thanks. I appreciate it.
