About the Site
and your host
Greetings from Fabulous Las Vegas! My name is James, and I'm the human being behind this site, We-moved-to-Las-Vegas.com. I wanted to put a picture of myself on here, but my wife, Susan, suggested I get a haircut first.
OK. I got a haircut Then I got very busy with other things, and by the time I could get a picture taken, I had to get another haircut. So I got another haircut. Then I got busy again. Then... Anyway, I already had this shot, and and people say it looks like me, so here it is.
I'm closer to 60 than 50 and over the years I've tried quite a few things, but this is my first try at a web site. Since age 10, I've had a soft spot for Las Vegas.
I grew up in the east at a time when westerns were the thing on TV. On a trip here with my folks, I spent a week learning to ride a horse (more or less). Unlike the riding schools in the east, which mostly had flat oval tracks, and English saddles, I was riding out in the desert and mountains, just like the cowboys!
I came back to visit about 10 years later, and several times after that. For some reason, I never came for the gambling (not that I don't enjoy a little poker now and then). When we were looking for a place to (semi) retire and buy some real estate it was my wife, Susan, who suggested Las Vegas. I was pleased to say the least. Since our move, many friends have visited (everyone comes to Vegas, eventually), and we've had fun showing them around. We always get a kick out of their reactions when the see slot machines in a grocery store, or realize you can quickly drive from a desert to snow capped mountains. Their fascination with the energy of the town, and the options available in all aspects of life, led naturally to this site's topic. I certainly don't know everything about Las Vegas
(Our Disclaimer)
, but then the idea behind the site is simply to is to offer an ever growing collection of (mostly useful, but sometime otherwise) observations about life in Las Vegas. I'll pass along things that seem strange, funny, startling, unique to the city or confusing to a recent arrival. I should mention that my wife, Susan, thinks I'm strange, funny and startling. Also confusing. Sue and I moved here in late 2003, and have been very happy with our decision. Since arriving, we have found that the people are wonderfully friendly, the weather is fantastic, and we do
things we would never have thought
of in the northeast. Building this site is a lot of fun, although Las Vegas changes quickly, and anything I write could be out of date within days. I'll do my best to avoid that, by checking and updating when I can. I thoroughly enjoy working on We-moved-to-Las-Vegas.com, but at this stage, it is still very much a part time venture. The idea for creating a web site was prompted by a seminar that Sue and I attended about doing business on the internet. The package they were selling was way overpriced, but it sparked our interest. After some extensive investigation, I found a
company I am very pleased with
. If you're interested in building a site of your own, I'd highly recommend them. I'd love to hear from you, and any suggestions you have for the site will be considered. Don't be afraid to use the provided forms. I won't ask for any information I don't need (
see the Privacy Policy
), just to have it on hand. If you provide an e-mail address, I will try to answer you personally, although it could take a while. Anyway, now that you're here, please wander around and see what's offered. If you are seriously considering a move to Las Vegas, or have recently moved, you just might find something that helps. At least stop by the
Weather page
, to see the current temperature, or the
Driving page
to check our local gas prices. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you'll keep coming back to see what's been added.
